Unknown black box that is dangling off of the rear?

Hey all,

I have a 1976 subaru brat and i was trying to get the lights (brake lights, blinker etc) and i noticed this black box under the rear end, i dont think its stock and it was wired into the brake lights with a wack wiring job

Any advice will help

Trailer Wiring. I'd take it out and tape up the car side wires if you're not gonna use it.

Im not going to use it, the rear is too rusted out, thank you for the solution
